ANAD Summer Camp

The Albanian Deaf Youth Association and ANAD (Albanian National Association for Deaf) in cooperation with Beyond Barriers and the Tirana Local Voluntary Service organised the First Summer Camp for deaf youth and other youngsters.

This camp brought together 35 youngsters aged 18 to 30 who during one week from 20th to 26th of June 2011 had the opportunity to exchange experience and have fun while learning the sign language from youngsters who can't hear and while organising games and educational or leisure activities. The aim of this camp was to bring together youngsters with hearing difficulties and their peers without hearing problems with the goal to raise awareness and feeling of cooperation through organising sportive, cultural and artistic youth activities. Volunteers of the Local Voluntary Service after participating in this Summer Camp expressed how pleased and surprised at how fun this activity was for them, given that it was their first experience with young people who have problems with hearing. Eriola Hoxha said: “It was an unforgettable experience, I didn't think I would like it so much and I'm very happy to have taken part in it. I learned the sign language alphabet and now I have a few friends more”.
