Promotion of Volunteering and Inclusion in Albania

Promotion of volunteering among Albanian youngsters and promotion of values connected with volunteer work are two of our organisation's goals. Seeing the effect and local impact which the work of our 4 European Volunteers was making we decided to do more.

This time we are hosting 10 volunteers from England for a short-term project which will take place from 1st to 31st of August 2011 in Tirana. The 10 chosen volunteers will get prepared to work together with Beyond Barriers and Local Voluntary Service volunteers for promoting volunteering and inclusion. They will be working with children from the Luigj Gurakuqi Special School in Tirana. During the whole month, the volunteers will be with children of this school, organising leisure and educational activities enabling the children to pass the summer differently. Since school was closed for the summer and the kids were obliged to stay at home in conditions not very favorable in their situation, we wanted to realise this project to entertain them and show them they were not alone, that there were young people who would even take a plane to come and spend some days with them.

This is a common project of Beyond Barriers Association and of our partner in England, ASHA Centre. It is financed from the Youth in Action Programme, and the British Council, UK.
