What You Get Is What You Give

"What You Get is What You Give" was a training course which took place in Vlora, Albania from 3-10 August 2011 with participants from 11 European countries (Italy, Romania, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Kosovo, Serbia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Macedonia, Turkey and Albania). It gathered 33 youth leaders who work and are willing to continue working with the European Voluntary Service Action.

The project's main topic was based in voluntarism, its promotion to youngsters, exchanging experience and improving competencies of participants while dealing with EVS projects. The idea of this project was also to create an opportunity for trainers, youth workers, SO-HO mentors (and future mentors) from different countries from SEE and EU and with different backgrounds to come together in Albania and use the opportunity to meet and exchange their experiences discussing different positive and negative situations that are created while working with EVS. This Training Course aimed therefore as well at giving the participants knowledge, skills and developing their attitudes towards future work with partner countries from SEE, both in Balkans and in other parts of Europe. Also, its aim was the establishment of personal contacts between participants and potential sending/hosting partners for European Voluntary Service.

Objectives of the training were:

• To train 33 youth workers, leaders who are working with young people with fewer opportunities (socio-economic, educational, cultural, religious, geographical, disability, sexual orientation and of both genders backgrounds) to work in the context of volunteering in SEE;

• To provide new tools for youth workers and activists for work with EVS in SEE and with people from SEE;

• To develop skills of youth workers on the specifics of work environment with SEE;

• To bring together people from across Europe to share and exchange experiences, opinions and values, to learn from each other and build new initiatives for the future;

• To increase the visibility of the YIA in Albania and increase the quality of EVS projects in SEE;

Methodology implemented in the training:

Methodology of the training was based in non formal education and its holistic approach. Participants improved their competencies through non formal methods like brainstorming, group works, simulation, role play, open group discussion, open space for reflection and other methods that trainers adapted based on the needs of participants.
