- Promoting Volunteerism as a Tool for Active Participation
Under the title “Promoting Volunteerism as a Tool for Active Participation” four volunteers from Poland, France, Italy and Slovenia are involved in different activities with Beyond Barriers.
First of all, three days per week they work in the Luigj Gurakuqi special school in Tirana. The school is the biggest of its type in Albania, with more than 100 pupils aged 6-18 with different developmental and physical problems such as Down's syndrome, autism, intellectual disability, learning difficulties, ADHD, epilepsia and others. They are divided into classes according to their learning possibilities. The volunteers organise for them social and recreational activities such as classes of art, sports, cooking, gardening and many others. As Beyond Barriers is focused on inclusion, EVS volunteers are working in collaboration with local volunteers. On the remaining days the volunteers work in the office on different tasks: the newsletter, website, peer to peer training to local volunteers, helping with organising current events and others.
- Summer school (short-term EVS for 10 volunteers)
This one-month project will take place in Tirana in August 2011. 10 volunteers from Great Britain will come to work in the special school Luigj Gurakuqi with local volunteers.
They will work with children with special needs (entertainment, manual and sportive activities,...) and in the school (reconstruction of the greenhouse).
