The second workshop on Visual Thinking was hosted by the Bravo organization in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from June 11-14. This event was part of a broader initiative titled “Communicative Strategies to Engage Dyslexic Youth in Associative Life,” aimed at empowering youth workers and educators with innovative tools and techniques to better support dyslexic individuals in engaging with community and associative activities.
The workshop gathered 50 participants from diverse backgrounds, including youth workers, educators, social workers, and representatives from civil society organizations. The focus was on exploring new and creative ways to connect with dyslexic youth, recognizing their unique needs, and overcoming traditional communication barriers.
Throughout the four-day event, participants engaged in a variety of interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and group exercises designed to foster creative thinking. Using visual thinking techniques, they collaborated on developing practical communication strategies that leverage visual aids, simplified messaging, and non-verbal cues to effectively engage dyslexic youth.
The sessions emphasized the importance of inclusive communication, exploring how visual tools like mind maps, infographics, and illustrated storytelling can be utilized to support dyslexic youth in associative life. The group activities facilitated an environment of shared learning, where participants exchanged ideas, co-created solutions, and tested new methods aimed at breaking down barriers faced by dyslexic individuals.
By the end of the workshop, participants had not only enhanced their understanding of the challenges faced by dyslexic youth but also developed a set of practical tools and strategies that they could implement in their own contexts. The workshop concluded with a strategy-building session, where teams presented their action plans for using these new techniques to promote inclusion and boost participation among dyslexic youth in their local communities.
