The first edition of the news literacy textbook, Sorting Facts from Fiction: Critical Thinking vs. Information Disorder and Propaganda, has been developed as part of the MEDIActive Youth: Informing the Balkans project.

This textbook is a key component of the Teaching Material Pack (TMP), designed to support youth educators in teaching news literacy. It is also available as a self-learning resource for anyone looking to strengthen their ability to critically analyze information.

Comprising 15 lessons, the textbook is structured as a series of independent workshops covering essential topics, including:

  • Introduction to News Literacy
  • Traditional vs. Digital Media
  • The Role of Algorithms and Social Media
  • Post-Truth & Information Disorder
  • Effective Search Strategies
  • Fake News, Disinformation, and Misinformation
  • Fact-Checking and Verification Tools
  • AI-Generated Images and Videos
  • Youth Media Activism
  • Critical Thinking Skills & Logical Fallacies
  • Analyzing News Articles and Media Messages
  • Global Perspectives on News

Each lesson includes references to relevant literature and open educational resources (OER), including text and multimedia content.

Developed with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme, the textbook was authored by an expert team from partner NGOs, led by Aleksandar Pavlović.

Following the testing phase, the final version will be available in English and the languages of the Western Balkans on the project website, where it can be freely downloaded and used.
